 It's that time of year once more; time for the biggest and most widely recognized surf contest in Santa Cruz. Yes, the Cold Water Classic is about to come to a lighthouse point near you.

The event runs from November 2 to November 8, at Steamer Lane. The special ambassador this year will be Jason Collins, a local Santa Cruz waverider of some fame and a nickname of Ratboy.

Past years contests have seen conditions of all extremes; raging rainstorms, howling winds, damp chilly fog, flat ocean, and yes sometimes epic waves. Let's hope for good surf this time around.
