Friends having a good time in military garb.

On Saturday, May 23, Secretroom.net hosted a Boot Worship Military Fetish Party at the Jungle.  I have to say, it was one of the best themed nights I have been to since I have been here in Atlanta.

I knew that most people would have no trouble dressing up for this event.  Most people in the underground scene have at least one pair of hardcore boots.  Many others have clothes and accessories that are either camouflage or military inspired.  And some, as seen in the picture, have actual military uniforms from countries like Russia and Germany.  Everyone looked fantastic.  It was almost as fun to people watch and see what everyone else was wearing as everything else the event had to offer.

I think the success of an event like this is really the theme and it's relatability to everyone.  If the theme is something that most people can dress up to, you'll not only have an excellent attendance but also a high turn out of people dressed in accordance with the theme.  It's not hard to see that most people in the underground scene really enjoy dressing up in costumes.   I tell my friends outside of the scene that for us, Halloween is year-round.  Dressing up in costumes and taking on other roles can be a really liberating experience, and I feel like we are lucky to be a part of a culture that embraces this concept and allows us to dress in costume for events such as these.

Aside from dressing the part, the military theme was also present in other aspects of the night.  Performances on stage resembled military interrogations and enemy relations.  There were also foreign military films being played on the big screens throughout the venue.  Even the cover charges reflected the theme, offering a $5 discount with military ID and women over 6'1" got in free until midnight (which isn't too hard to do with 6" plus platform boots!)

DJs Jennocide and Omac were on hand playing the best music I have heard in a long time.  I especially liked all of the old school goth that was mixed in with regular tracks.  My friends and I were on and off the dance floor all night.

The Jungle is quickly becoming one of my favorite venues.  They have a large dance floor, several bars with experienced bartenders that deliver excellent service (especially my girl Cam), and plenty of room to lounge and chat with friends.

All in all, it was a great night.  Everyone seemed to be really comfortable and just relax and have fun.  I definitely hope to see a return of this theme in the future.
