It's beginning to happen more and more: as the scene continues to grow in Atlanta, new events are popping up left and right. While that is definitely a good thing, because it allows for more options, it can also pose some tough decisions. When two events are scheduled on the same night, which one do you choose?
This Friday, May 15, two events are scheduled: the second coming of Mon Cherie's Club Fetish, and Secretroom's new event, Dream. Of course, if you have the money and are willing, you could always try to hit both. However, if you're like me, you prefer going to one place and hanging out there all night--not club hopping. So I will do my best to try to help you decide which event to choose.
First, let's look at the events themselves. Dream is a first-time event, taking place at Le Bam on Monroe Dr. I have heard that this is a very neat and artsy venue, and it's located right near RuSan's which makes it the perfect dinner and club combo night. The cover is $20, and that includes drinks "while they last," according to Jsin when I spoke to him at Electrohurtz on May 8. There are also areas for dancing and lounging. While this is a first-time event, it is being brought to you by Jsin and Secretroom.net, and they know how to throw a party. This event is going to be taking the place of Electrohurtz, which had it's last event on May 8. It will be every 3rd Friday of the month from here on out.
An alternative to Dream is Mon Cherie's Club Fetish. This is the second time this event is taking place; the last one occurred on February 20. I didn't attend personally, but everyone that I talked to that went said that it was a great time, and it had the feel of the old Chamber to it. That is because, of course, Mon Cherie was the original Chamber-maiden! Club Fetish this Friday is going to be even bigger than last time, with a performance by local industrial band Prognosis accompanied by fetish performers. Other highlights will be a guest performance by Oni, the hostess of Phobia, VJ Anthony spinning gothic and industrial, and Damon Mace of Aries Chainmail showing off and selling his beautiful handmade chainmail jewelry and accessories. Cover is $12, and it will take place in Hell of The Masquerade.
So those are the cold, hard, facts. Ready for some editorializing? You got it!
Dream will no doubt be a great event, and I definitely want to go. However, after attending Lunatic Lounge on its second-time event and being highly disappointed, I have grown reservations about attending events in their early stages. Granted, Dream will be hosted by Jsin, so I'm sure it will be nothing like LL. But I should also mention that turnout for first-time events is rarely very good. First-time events are like a dress rehearsal, when you see how everything is supposed to go before opening night, but there are still a lot of kinks that need to be ironed out.
Club Fetish will no doubt have an amazing turnout. With addition to all of the normal fetish/clubbers, you will also have the industrial music fans there to support Prognosis. Club Fetish is also a lesser recurring event, so far with only one event scheduled every 3 months. That reason alone is enough to make me choose Club Fetish over Dream. If I miss Dream this time, I have another chance to go next month. If I miss Club Fetish again, I might have to wait until August!
So I will be at Club Fetish Friday night. If you choose Dream, please message me and let me know how it went. I will be attending Dream next month.
