June 1 is tax appeal deadline!
If you are thinking about appealing your property tax valuation, you must do that by next Monday, June 1. I believe you have a better chance of getting an adjustment from your county assessor's office if you speak to them in person or send them information, such as information on comparable sales (prior to June 30, 2008) with your notice of appeal. However, if you aren't able to gather information by June 1, you can still go ahead and file a notice of appeal. Check your notice for how to do that. Many counties allow you to do that on-line. You can still request a hearing before the county Board of Equalization if you don't receive an adjustment by the assessor's office, and you can present evidence at the hearing. Most counties hold hearings in July and some hold them in September and October. You can contact me with questions at gfostermb@yahoo.com.
