Michelle Rodriguez puts her dog in a
potentially traumatizing situation

When it comes to transporting your pet, it is really best to not follow the example given by former Lost actress Michelle Rodriguez.I hope that Miss Rodriguez deeply cares for her dog, yet had a momentary lapse of judgement by lifting the dog above her head in one hand just in time for a papparazi to capture the image.

Provided your dog is able to walk on a leash, allow your dog to use its limbs to walk instead of being carried in your arms (or arm). In my personal practice, I see small dogs suffer broken limbs, sprained joints, torn ligaments, disc ruptures, and other soft tissue trauma after falling from a height as low as an average person’s hip level. Trauma from falling can elicit significant physical pain and behavioral changes from your pet. Some falls result in conditions that require surgery, long periods to activity restriction, and consultations with veterinary physical therapists and acupuncturists to help resolve. Other secondary outcomes of such trauma do not resolve and can leave a pet having compromised mobility for the rest of their life.

Please walk you pet in a manner that they will have a fun, constructive, trauma-free experience. If you have questions about the best types of activities to provide your pet with safe exercise, please consult your regular veterinarian.
