In the wake of the media commotion around Miley Cyrus closing her twitter account, a disturbing threat has emerged with an unusual and cruel intention toward animals. Mileysavefuzzy.com (out of principal, I am NOT going to hyperlink to the site) threatens to kill Fuzzy, a male cat, if Miley Cyrus does not reopen her Twitter account by Novermber 16, 2009.
The age, sex, and location of the individual responsible for this rant is unknown. The author, whom I will refer to as MSF (MileySaveFuzzy) claims to hail from a country where the consumption of felines by humans is legal and a seemingly culturally accepted occurrence. Perhaps MSF is from Jokkmokk, Sweden, where Adreas Viklund, MSF’s website designer, calls home.
In this article, I will address MSF directly.
Never harm an animal, nor stake the claim to do so. The irresponsible nature of your threat is made even more ridiculous considering its transparency as a ploy to attract attention to your website and Twitter account. Animals are not disposable. When you elect to incorporate a companion animal into your household, you are responsible for your pet’s nutritional support, socialization, and health maintenance. A pet should not be acquired just because they are cute or to attract attention to yourself (or your cause).
The actions you threaten to carry out fall under the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) definition of Intentional Cruelty, which states “intentional cruelty occurs when an individual purposely inflicts physical harm or injury on an animal; usually an indicator of a serious human behavior problem.”
It is likely that you are afflicted with a mental health disorder motivating you to threaten to physically traumatize an animal. A 2002 study in the Journal of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law establishes a correlation between persons with a history of animal cruelty and “Antisocial Personality Disorder (APD), antipersonality traits, and polysubstance abuse.” Pet-Abuse.com reports the findings of a 1997 study conducted by the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) and Northeastern University establishing that people who abused animals are “five times more likely to commit violent crimes against people and four times more likely to commit property crimes than are individuals without a history of animal abuse.”
I find it very disconcerting that you would take the time to craft this idea, purchase the domain name, and subject the world to your inhumane scheme. Your contribution to the media creates a permanent negative correlation to any future enterprise you may undertake.
I am reporting your intention and website site to the ASPCA and so that they can observe your updates and take appropriate action based on their evaluation.
