I was playing with my crystal ball this morning and thought I saw a few things through the mists of time. Either that or I got some bleu cheese dressing smudged on the ball. Regardless, I thought I would share some of my visions of the future with you all (we can decide in 2010 if it was just the bleu cheese talking).

#1. More studies will be released showing the superior health effects of a low carbohydrate, high fat, adequate protein diet. Dieticians will be forced to enroll in yoga classes so they can continue to contort their arguments supporting lower fat intake and eating plenty of carbohydrates.

#2. The new diet buzz phrase will be "Healthy Whole Grains". More people will switch from white breads and sugary cereals to brown breads and whole grain cereals. Since these products can be as bad or worse on blood sugar levels as the white stuff, consumers will see little (if any) health benefits from the switch. Doctors will see a continued increase in type 2 diabetes cases, heart disease, Alzheimer's disease and heart problems. Doctors will blame video games and prescribe eating more grains.

#3. Oprah Winfrey, in an attempt to lose the weight she gained following the advice of celebridoc Mehmet Oz, will begin training with Tom Cruise in the new sport of competitive couch jumping.

#4. Doctors will continue to prescribe statins at an alarming rate despite evidence that they are of little benefit, are expensive and a have high risk of side effects. Attorneys specializing in class action law suits will try to hide their glee while shopping for beach front property and new cars.

#5. I will continue to rant and rave about low carb diets and how they are the healthiest way to lose weight and feel great. People will continue to think I am insane.
