Can't afford to give steak? Take your pick from the list!

Kitchen-created gifts are affordable to give and often very appreciated by the recipient. When buying gifts is out of the budget, making muffins, cookies, or baking little loafs of zucchini bread is a great way to provide presents. Unfortunately, if the person you usually bake for is now following a low carb diet, giving them baked goodies can seriously derail their weight loss efforts.

Rather than accidentally dragging them back in to carbohydrate hell, there are gifts you can give that are as inexpensive as baked goods, yet will be useful and appreciated by your low carb friends.

1. PORK RINDS: A large bag placed in a dollar store Christmas stocking is inexpensive and very handy. Low carbers can use it for dipping in to legal cream cheese dips at parties while it helps them avoid the forbidden chips.

2. MEAT: Whether it's a summer sausage, some Slim Jims or a bag of Jack Links, meat is something that low carbers love. Just stick a bow on it and it's ready to go.

3. SUGAR-FREE SYRUP: There are several manufacturers with a multitude of flavored sugar-free syrups. Da Vinci and Torini brands are readily available. Primarily used for coffee, industrious low carbers also use these to create sugar-free versions of their old recipe favorites. Available in the coffee isle, they come in small and large sizes. Get them their favorite flavor, or buy them a type they haven't tried yet.

4. DARK CHOCOLATE: Yes, chocolate...but instead of sugar-filled milk chocolate, get them dark chocolate containing AT LEAST 70% cocoa. 85% cocoa chocolate bars are best, but they can be hard to find. While these chocolate bars do contain some sugar, the percentage of carbs per serving is very low. Look for brands like Lindt, Black & Greens, and Endangered Species.

5. SPICE IT UP: Low carb cooks add variety to their meals by trying different seasonings. A few exotic spices, some fresh bulk herbs or a new steak rub is a great way to show your holiday spirit to a sugar-free friend. Just be sure to check labels carefully and look for spice mixes without added sweeteners or carby fillers.

BONUS! I have created a recipe card of my Sugar-Free, Low Carb Peanut Butter Fudge. First click here to download the file. Next, print the PDF document on any home printer. Then place the card, a can of unsweetened coconut milk, a container of unsweetened cocoa powder, and a small jar of natural no sugar added peanut butter in festive looking Christmas basket. You now have a perfect gift for the low carber in your life.

Happy Holidays!
