Maybe it's time to part with that old Zip drive gathering dust in a corner of your desk, or perhaps that broken VCR really shouldn't be occupying space behind the Swiffer in the utility closet anymore.
I might give the heave ho to my old iMac; it isn't even plugged in anymore. My daughter turned into a work of art, sort of, by slapping on the monitor a most unbecoming picture of our poor little pooch Romeo, who just saw me taking a photo of the photo and gave me a sad, "How could you post that? I look wasted. What if I want a job someday and a prospective employer sees it?" look. So I snapped a picture of him nearby (which was difficult because he is always either in motion or asleep) so you can see that the picture on the monitor is an anomaly.
I bring up the subject of electronic waste right now because today, June 13, until 4:30 p.m., and tomorrow, June 14, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Sonoma County and ASL Recycling are sponsoring a "free e-waste event."
In the parking lot of the Cotati Park and Ride on Hwy. 116 at Redwood Drive, they are accepting all manner of e-junk: computers and peripherals, TVs and consumer electronics, office equipment, and kitchen and household appliances. The last category being of the blenders, toaster oven and coffee maker kind, not the refrigerators, stoves, dishwasher and other large appliance kind.
All you have to do is dig the stuff out and cart it on over there. They'll take care of it free of charge.
