I just got an email message from Petaluma Mayor Pam Torliatt's office about an opportunity to gather, get to know some neighbors, enjoy the glorious sunshine and get some exercise, so I thought I'd pass it on.

Dubbed the Mayor's Bike Ride, it's happening tomorrow, May 9, and is "an easy, 7 mile bike ride ... fun for all ages, and wear your helmets!" the message says.

Meet at 10 a.m. in the parking lot of the former Mervyn's building, 389 S. McDowell Blvd. (That's just a couple doors down from my favorite local pet supply store: Pet Food Express. I'll write about that business one of these days soon.)

If you can't make it tomorrow, the message noted a couple more events in the same vein coming up.

First is iWalk Petaluma, Sat. May 16. This is a 2.1 mile walk that begins in Shollenberger Park. Meet in the parking lot at 9 a.m. For more info on that walk and others planned throughout the county, visit www.iwalksonoma.org.

The second is called Mayor's Non-motorized Boat. That'll be Sat., Sept. 12. Meet at 10 a.m. at the Petaluma Marina if you're up for paddling up to the Turning Basin. Gotta wear a life jacket for that one.
