Yo, Sunday morning sleepyheads. Here's an idea that'll bring you gently into the day. When you turn in on Saturday night (or early Sunday morning if you don't follow Benjamin Franklin's advice) tune your radio to the Krush (KRSH) at 95.9 FM, and set it to turn on at 8:15 a.m.
When the morning rolls around, settle in to a comfy spot and let DJ Bob Sala's deep, bemused voice lead you through a range of acoustic music on his show, "Uncorked." You'll enjoy all manner of roots, folk, alternative country and like-minded artists, pared down and nonelectric: from icons like Dylan to newcomers like Sara Watkins.
I
'm typing this sentence to the rhythm of John Prine's "Muhlenberg County," and a while earlier Kate Wolf's dulcet voice singing "Carolina Pines" filled the room.
Starting a new week this way works for my husband, Jim (who suggested I write about this). He used to be tucked under the covers well past 10 a.m. with only the Sunday paper to look forward to, but these days, he's reclining in his La-Z-Boy listening to Sala's show start to finish and perusing the "PD" for events of interest. I'm usually nearby, iBook in my lap in case he wants me to find details about something on the Web. When the final number ends, we've usually decided how we want to spend the rest of the day.
Officially the music is supposed to run from 8 to 11 a.m., but it never starts on time. That's part of the charm. So are some of the spoof commercials, which may be hard to detect if you've partied a bit too hard the night before. Sala also throws in an occasional electric number, like right now The Beatles' "Get Back" just came on, to keep listeners on their toes, perhaps.
Next Sunday the show will be a salute to Pete Seeger in honor the venerable folkie's 90th birthday. Or, that's what Sala says right now. He's bound to have a few other things up his sleeve.

Oh, and the picture doesn't have anything to do with this article. I took it at Mary's Pizza Shack in Boyes Hot Springs the other day. I'll write about Mary's this week.
