Harborplace & The Gallery will host City Sand on Saturday, June 27 at Harborplace Amphitheater (between the Pratt Street and Light Street Pavilions). Groups of local architects and design firms will create sand sculptures depicting the 2009 theme of Edgar Allen Poe. This year’s theme celebrates the 200th birthday of one of Baltimore’s most infamous icons and poets. Children will have the opportunity to make creations of their own in a kid friendly sandbox, while the adults will be serenaded by three local bands. The Baltimore Islanders, a steel drum band, and the Key West Band, a Jimmy Buffett tribute band, will keep the party going after the awards ceremony. The “People’s Choice” and “Judges Choice” awards will be announced during the awards ceremony.
