Seven pipe bands from Newfoundland to Florida have graced the The Greenport Maritime Festival this year. They marched along Main Street and Front Street to kick off the festival at 11:00 this morning. The parade was followed by the Greek Orthodox Church's traditional blessing of the waters.
Activities are scheduled throughout the weekend, and in between, people can visit the vendors along Main and Front or visit the variety of vessels parked at the dock. There is no admission fee to the festival but people should be prepared to spend.
Even those who can resist purchasing crafts, art and toys may be unable to resist the vendor food offerings, especially the crab cakes and kettle corn - both are a must try.
People can also learn about the not-for-profit organizations in the area by visiting their booths.
