In an unprecedented effort at government transparency and to circumvent special interest groups, President-Elect Obama and his transition team have sought to make good on his campaign promises regarding health care. Yesterday, Tom Daschle gave a speech, calling on the American Public to log into Obama’s website Change.gov: "what we want to do now is to move to a discussion across the country," Daschle said in a speech yesterday in Denver. "We want your exact ideas."
If you can log in to view this page, you can do the same with this bold new project. For as long as I’ve been writing this article, I have called for greater attention to such things as the Mental Health Parity Bill and the abolishment of “Managed Care” when it comes to mental health. The poor, elderly, and those without advocates have been drowning for decades in the bureaucracy of the health care industry. It’s time to make your voices heard. With enough attention and enough comments, it’s quite possible that this will happen.
With 1 in 5 young adults afflicted with personality disorders, US Veterans having their benefits ripped away under false pretenses of government agencies renaming PTSD to Adjustment Disorder; with skyrocketing health care costs for prescription drugs, and pharmaceutical companies running the gambit with people’s lives and sanity; with suicide on an unprecedented rise—Now is the time to write in and be heard. I find it hard pressed to find a single American family that is not somehow effected by mental illness in some way. Research it, look into it, make an informed comment and let it be known that this much needed change will not happen without the involvement of the American People.
