We know, we know: Final round of the 2009 season, boys and girls. But don't think sad thoughts just yet, we've still got one more race to savor and the two-wheeled gods above promise us it will be a good one.
With second and third place still up for contention, keep in mind that Jorge Lorenzo would have to crash out for Stoner to pull a second place. And no body wants that. What would be sweet, however, would be a pole-to-pole victory from the Down Under dirt-tracker, stealing all glory from He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named (at his home track, no less!) and assuring the little Spaniard creep a swift boot from third place in World Championship points.
Now with those minor statistics out of the way, we can focus on the fact that Stoner has dominated the weekend thus far, and is sure to put on a great show from first place on the grid for the final round of MotoGP's 2009 season tomorrow at the Spanish Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana.
Lorenzo also sits on the front row, while his teammate and 2009 World Champ chills on the second row in fourth--sittin' pretty after picking up the BMW M Award for best qualifier in 2009, with an M3 to add to his collection.
Mr. David Emmett of MotoMatters.com claims Colin Edwards "won the American Civil War," edging out compatriot Nicky Hayden for fifth, leaving The Kentucky Kid to settle for sixth. And speaking of Americans, all hands in the air for another Yank on the track: Welcome, Ben Spies! Next year will be a blast, darlin'.
Randy de Puniet recovered from a crash to grab the first spot on the fourth row; Tony Elias will occupy eighth, and wildcard Spies takes ninth with Dovi completing the top ten.
DO NOT miss the race tomorrow. Only on the Speed Channel, at 3 p.m., PST.
