It's that time of year again when the world has a couple more races to go before the paddocks close down, the trailers go into storage and the racers go home to their families, girlfriends and favorite spot on the beaches of St. Tropez...or so we imagine.

It's like the last couple days of vacation--you're so terribly sad it has to end so you do your damndest to make the last bits really count.

For Rossi fans, the elation of knowing the eight-time World Champ is about to shut up another trophy in his case, is extra sweet after seeing his lap times this weekend. This is, however, the premier-class of motorcycling racing, where anything can happen.

Either way, MotoGP.com reported the Italian's comments on beating his own pole position record at the Sepang Circuit, which has stood since 2006, set on those tasty machines with 990cc engines. His new record stopped the clocks at 2’00.518.

Rossi said: “It’s great to get the record because we worked so hard in practice and I’m very happy with the setting we have. My target was to try and go under 2’01, because in the winter test here I got to around that pace, but I managed to go even better and beat my own time from 2006 with a 990cc bike and qualifying tires. It was a great lap.”

He continued, “My Yamaha is working so well here and it’s a great track. We worked very well with Bridgestone to have a good strategy for the session and we are in the best position for starting the race tomorrow.”

Teammate Jorge Lorenzo sits next to Rossi on the grid, so of course the race will be nothing less than exciting. The boyz of Ducati Corse sit on the second and third rows and have been complaining about set-ups. Loris Capirossi is set to go to battle with everyone, from fifth, followed by Elias, while The Parisian Playboy, The Texas Tornado and Alex de Angelis complete the top ten.

Check back here after the race, which airs at 3 p.m. (PST), Sunday, October 25, 2009.
