The Boston Celtics will have the pleasure (is that the right word?) of meeting President Bush on Friday at the White House, celebrating the franchise's 17th NBA championship. Now, I’m not going to get all political in an NBA forum, but wouldn’t it be great to hear Kevin Garnett and Co. talk politics with Dubya rather than pose for a grip-and-grin photo opp? I’ll be interested to hear what KG and the C's have to say after their meeting with the Prez.
Speaking of photo opps, I came across the photo at right on the White House’s photo page and thought it would be a good one for a caption contest, knowing that LeBron James has publicly backed Senator Obama and donated $20,000 to his campaign.
(Suggest your captions in the comments section below).
King James is one of many NBAers who have publicly endorsed Obama. I’m still searching for one who’s backed McCain. I’ll get back to you on that one … OK, no I won’t.
Greg Oden said it loud and clear in his personal blog, titling one of Yard Barker's most popular posts: Senator Obama is getting my vote. It appears fellow rookies Derrick Rose, Joe Alexander, O.J. Mayo, Kevin Love, Anthony Roberson and Joey Dorsey are all for Obama as well.
Even some high-profile agents are showing Obama the money. Leigh Steinberg, for example, has created a foundation called Athletes for Obama with the help of Reggie Bush and Charles Barkley.
Then there are pro-Obama sites like Ballers4Barack.com, dedicated to basketball players who endorse Obama.
Maybe 2008 really is the Year of the Celtics and Obama...
