The Northwest International Student Exchange is seeking families to host Chinese students coming to the Steele Creek/Fort Mill area just outside of Charlotte this summer. Students will attend English as a Second Language (ESL) classes daily at Grace Presbyterian Church in Fort Mill, SC and will be with their host families during the evenings and weekends. Students come with insurance and spending money, and a host family's only responsibility is to provide a bed and 3 meals a day.
The program begins July 14th and ends August 3rd, but is also open to anyone who can host for half the duration of the program. Most students are 14-17 years old, and there will also be 2 chaperones that need host families.
This is a unique opportunity for families with adopted Chinese children, as it provides the adopted child with links to his or her heritage and gives the entire family an opportunity to practice Mandarin Chinese language skills. The exchange student or chaperone can also share insights into the Chinese culture and serve as a role model and friend for the adopted child.
