The Charlotte Chinese Art School is offering art and Chinese-based summer camps for ages 3 and up each week from June 15 through August 21. The camps are for any children who are interested in the Chinese culture, and no Mandarin Chinese language experience is necessary. Each day of the camp will consist of singing Chinese songs and story time, which will include learning to recite portions of the story in Chinese. They will also have traditional Chinese activities, hand crafts, and Chinese movies. Younger children may have nap time after the lunch break, and snacks throughout the day will be provided.

Parents may choose a full day camp (9am-6pm Monday through Friday) or half day camp (Monday, Thursday, or Friday 9am-1pm or 2pm-6pm, Tuesday 2pm-6pm, Wednesday 9am-1pm). The cost for the full day camp is $35 per day or $135 per week. The half day camp is offered for $20 per day. An optional lunch is available each day for $3. Summer camps will be held at two locations:

  • 5113 Piper Station Dr. Charlotte, NC 28277 (Hwy485 & Rea Rd)
  • Asian Culture Center - 701 Scaleybark Rd. Charlotte, NC 28209

In addition to the summer camp, parents may enroll their child in weekly classes from June 15 - August 21:

The art class on Tuesday mornings is taught by an esteemed instructor, who has received many awards in painting and calligraphy in China. All classes are for children, ages 4 1/2 and up. Adult classes are also available. Chinese language instruction is given in the course of each class. The cost for each class is $18 per session.

The classes and camps are ideal opportunites for adopted Chinese children, as well as children from Chinese American families, to be exposed to the Chinese culture and learn a little of the language, while having fun and creating beautiful art.

For more info: attend the Charlotte Chinese Art School Open House on Saturday, May 30th,  3pm-4:30pm, at the Asian Culture Center - 701 Scaleybark Rd. Charlotte, NC 28209. You may also set-up an appointment by contacting Jane Zhao at cltchineseartschool@yahoo.com or 980-939-9408.
