It seems that every week or so lately it appears that it's safe to say goodbye to summer heat here in Houston and then here it comes again. For example, yesterday the thermometer flirted with 90 degrees, and yet today it won't go higher than the mid 70s. (Thanks Canada!)

Luckily, the cool spells have, for the most part, come when needed most; on the weekends. Last Sunday, for example. The temperature was about 70 degrees with a steady breeze pushing the runners at the USA 10-Miler in clear Lake.

 With cooler weather come more Houston area races and faster Prs. So with that in mind, it's time to start registering. Here are the upcoming races.

• October 24: Goblin Gallop; 5K; Deer Park
• October 24: D'Feet Breast Cancer; 5K, 10K, Kid's 1K (Something for the whole family!); Galveston
• October 24: Energy Capitol Run; 5K, 1 mile; Eldridge in the Energy Corridor, Houston
• October 24: Boo Run Run 5K Run/Walk, Kid's Run; Chappell Hill
• October 25: Koala/Luke's Houston Half Marathon and 2-Person Relay; Downtown Houston; Note: This is the third HARRA Fall Series 2009 race. In for a dime, in for a dollar, folks!
• October 31: PARC Monster Dash; 5K, 10K; Silverlake, Pearland
• October 31: Monster Mash; 5K, 10K, Kid's 1K, Sam Houston Racetrack
• November 1: Texas State Senior Games; Track and Field events; Barnett Sports Complex, Houston
• November 1: Optimist Club 4 Mile Fun Run; and 2 Mile walk; Sugarland
• November 1: Vibha Dream Mile; 5K Run/Walk; Lost Creek Park, Sugarland
• November 7: Rocky Raccoon 50K/25K; Trail Run; Huntsville
• November 8: HMSA Classical 25K and 3-Person Relay; Downtown Houston; Note: This is the fourth HARRA Fall Series 2009 race. Are you still with us?
• November 21: Urban Dare 5-7 Mile Adventure Race; Houston
• November 21: Wardia Cardiac Endurance Trail Run; 50 mile, 50K, 25K; Warda
• November 26: Turkey Day 10K and 5K Fun Run; Clear Lake
• November 26: Sheltering Arms Turkey Trot; 5K, 10K run or walk; Uptown Park, Houston
• November 26: Run Through the Woods; 5 miles; The Woodlands
• November 26: Sugarland Surgical Hospital Turkey Trot; 5 mile run, 2.8 mile walk, Kid's mile; Sugarland
• November 26: Katy Turkey Dash; 5K; Katy
• November 27: Conroe Turkey Trot; 5K; Conroe
