Challenges leading to choices was this weeks theme. The first challenge was met by Tracey. Bob and Jillian want her working out as she is only getting half the experience. She meets with the doctor and is told the worst. Her labs are worse than ever and therefore is told, "absolutely no exercise- activities of daily living only and no weight loss". Tracey has been doing well with nutrition and walking only, but now all exercise has been taken away and she needs to maintain her weight so that her body can heal. Again the pressure is on Mo to carry the purple team to week 5.
Perhaps the greatest challenge to all players is the fact that the kitchen is locked and the contestants safety is gone. This week they must face the real world and order in for every single meal. Now the contestants must make wise nutrition choices from restaurant menus. They must take the nutrition knowledge that they have learned over the past 3 weeks and apply it. Perhaps the greatest challenge is being affirmative enough to tell the restaurant exactly how the food is to be cooked, what is to be put on the food and what is to be left off or on the side, and substitutions to be made. Even if the ordering of the food is done correctly, the preparation is left to someone else and those strict orders may not be followed. Then what? The instructions were to steam the vegetables and they come fried, the chicken was supposed to be skinless and baked and it comes with skin and sauteed. Now another choice has to be made to eat it anyway, send it back, take off things that aren't supposed to be there, or don't eat it at all. All of the contestants stated that they felt sluggish and were not confident on the scales.
Going into the weigh in, the orange team won immunity in the challenge. The first to weigh in, the orange team showed that eating out for every single meal did not show well on the scales. Daniel lost 0 and Shay only lost 5. The numbers were lower for most with numbers coming in between 3-8 pounds with a few pulling double digits. Perhaps the most shocking was the purple team. Tracey lost 4 pounds (against doctor's orders) and Mo lost 8 pounds which put them in the safe zone.
Facing elimination was the brown team and Julio from the black team. The deciding contestants must decide if they will choose with game play as strategy or take game play out of it and send home the person that they think will be the most successful at this point in time. In the end, most took game play out of the equation and sent home Julio.
Weight loss is about making good choices and facing everyday challenges of work and family. The Biggest Loser takes these stresses out of the equation and provides safety on the ranch, but gives challenges like this week to bring reality back to the contestants to remind them that this has to happen at home in light of busy schedules that cause us to eat out often and put ourselves at the bottom of the list. Make good food choices daily and choose to schedule exercise into daily busy schedules to make yourself the Biggest Loser.
