It’s not a brain-damaging concept: the holidays and bubblies go hand in hand. It is estimated that more than 70% of all the sparkling wines consumed in this nation are drunk in the months of November and December. So you will be seeing dozens of wine tastings in the next few weeks focusing on fizzy.
What is unusual is to find a sparkler that is organically made and which blatantly admits it (organic wines have a mixed reception among winelovers). One such now on the market is a cava, a sparkling wine made just like French Champagne but produced from Spanish grapes.
Tarantas Cava Brut is made from Xarello, Macabeo and Parellada grapes, the local faves. It is put through the same double fermentation process as true French Champagne which means the bottle you are buying is the one in which the wine did its thing. It would make a neat gift for your eco-conscious, wine-loving friend.
It is available only at Whole Foods Market stores and will be priced at $15 and under.
