2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is God-breathed...
My friends, the Bible is being described more and more as a book that is irrelevant to the times in which we live. So, I would like to look at the times we live in and see if that is true. This won't take very long, so stay with me as we visit ourselves.
Our first visit will be to the waiting room at our Family Doctor's office. Sitting in the corner very quietly is a man who is suffering from what will be diagnosed as Depression. He believes that life is just not worth living anymore. He feels that he is not appreciated any more. He feel ineffective at his job and is sure that he will be soon be laid off or fired.
His Doctor, will give him a prescription and refer him to a counselor.
Is there a story in the Bible that could be of help to that man in the corner of the Doctor's office? There is! You will find it in 1 Kings chapters eighteen and nineteen. It is the story of the Prophet Elijah who felt that the world he knew was against him and there was no hope for him because no one cared about him anymore.
Our second visit is to the office of an Accountant, his has asked for his Administrative Assistant to bring in the file he had been assigned to complete. The client had called and was coming in that morning to review it. His Assistant had not finished it! The night before, he had taken it home to get it ready for presentation, but, the the baseball playoffs were on TV and his favorite team was one game away from going to the Series! As it turned out the game went into extra innings and when it was over, his team had lost and besides being disappointed at the loss, he was also so tired that he went right to bed. Forgetting about the account that needed to be finished.
As he walked to the office of his boss, he was trying to find an excuse to explain why he was not finished. He had stopped at the water cooler for a glass of water and while he was filling the glass, he figured out what to say.
His mother was in the hospital and he had stopped in for a quick visit on his way home the day before. With a satisfied smile on his face, he knew what to say.
He told his boss that his mother was in the hospital and when he had stopped to see her on the way home. He found her crying and he just had to be there for her. When he finally got home, he was so concerned about he condition that he was afraid that he would make mistakes working on the account.
His boss said that he understood and that he should call the client and reschedule the appointment for the next day. Just then the secretary stepped in the office and told the Assistant that his mother had called from the hospital to tell him that she was getting a ride home with a neighbor that afternoon. The removal of the bunion on her big toe was successful, as expected and she was doing very well.
He had gotten away with stretching the truth many times, but this time he was caught by his lie!
Can the irrelevant Bible help us see what will happen when we allow our life to be governed by half-truths? Yes it will and all you have to do is go to Genesis chapter twelve and read what happened to Abraham when he used a half-truth to cover up the truth.
The Apostle Paul told a young Pastor named Timothy in our Bible Verse of the Day that the Scripture was God-breathed. He wanted Timothy to know that just as the air we breathe gives us life, so do the Scriptures.
I suggest you go to a Bible Book Store and ask the person at the counter to show you where you can find the books that are called
Have you heard the expression, the proof is in the pudding? Here is a new one for you, the solution is in the Scripture!
Have a great day my friends!
