If you enjoy walking around a lake or pond but find the popular Columbia lakes (Elkhorn, Centennial, Kittamaqundi, etc.) too populated, then you'll find something akin to peace and serenity at the Sewells Orchard pond. This 1.5-mile walk takes you around the beautiful and quiet pond at Sewell’s Orchard Park. There are many places to rest and enjoy the view and the the great blue herons and ducks who live on the pond.
I like to start this walk on Dobbin Road, parking in the office building lot right across from the Blockbuster. The pond itself is less than a mile around, so starting here lengthens the walk by giving you a short stroll through pine woods and a field before circling the pond.
Plus, the parking lot is easy to find and very convenient to some great places to grab a bite to eat with your dog in tow. Just take a very short drive from the parking lot to the Pub Dog (8865 Stanford Blvd) if you're in the mood for a cold beer and pizza, or to Starbuck's (6490 Dobbin Road). Both places have outdoor patios and were very welcoming to our pooches.
And, if you still feel the need to walk some more afterwards, there is a short pond walk right behind the Pub Dog, with pretty weeping willows, a little garden and geese.
