We had lunch at Great Sage today with 5 dogs joining us (!), and had the best time. The food was excellent and the wait staff could not have been more welcoming and attentive to our pooches.

Great Sage is a vegetarian restaurant in the Clarksville Square Shopping center in Clarksville on Rt. 108, near Rt. 32.  There is truly something here for everyone (except must-have-meat carnivores) and one can find selections that include, vegan, gluten-free, and soy-free. The offerings are influenced by many international cuisines--Asian, Mediterranean, Southwestern, and South American to name a few. You can tell your server if you have any special dietary needs, and the staff will be happy to accommodate you. I was very happy with my Southwest burger. And my lunching companions were very pleased with their portabella wraps, black bean soup, quesedillas and salads.

One of the first things the staff did when we arrived was to bring out a dish of water for the dogs. They all seemed to truly enjoy having us and connecting with our fur-kids.

The terrace faces the woods, seats about 15, and overlooks a small playground for a nearby daycare center. The dogs found life quite exciting at recess time when all the kids were let loose to play on the first beautiful day we had in some time.

I was sure to save room for dessert--I've never been disappointed with the selection. I had my favorite fruit crisp and my friends dove into a chocolate-coconut-bread budding concoction. I was given a taste and will move this up higher on my list of choices. It was wonderful. Tthe portions were a good size too. And did I mention the coffee? You can choose from light, medium or dark roasts. My light roast was certainly a standout for restaurant coffee.

Great sage is part of "Conscious Corner," which includes Roots, a natural foods market; Bark, a shop for pet food and supplies; and Nest, a shop with earth-friendly clothing and gifts. Bark welcomes pets in the shop, so after lunch at Great Sage, you and your dog can saunter on down and pick up a special treat or toy.
