"There's no reason to drink cow's milk at any time in your life. It was designed for calves, not humans, and we should all stop drinking it today." -- Dr. Frank A. Oski, Former Director of Pediatrics, Johns Hopkins University
This week’s menu focuses solely on dairy replacements.
Top Five dairy-free products:

2. Tofutti’s Better Than Cream Cheese and Better Than Sour Cream
3. Turtle Mountain’s SO Delicious ice cream and ice cream sandwiches
4. Whole Soy & Co.’s variety of yogurts
5. Teese vegan cheese in mozzarella, cheddar, and nacho flavors (available locally at Green restaurant or online)
** Also worth mentioning are the many delicious milk substitutes such as Almond milk, Rice milk, Soy milk, Hemp milk and Oat milk as well as nutritional yeast, a GREAT substitute for cheese flavoring. **
Top Five reasons to avoid dairy:
1. Growth hormones and unnatural milking schedules cause dairy cows' udders to become painful and so heavy that they sometimes drag on the ground, resulting in frequent infections and overuse of antibiotics.
2. Male calves are taken from their mothers shortly after birth and placed in crates so small that they can't turn around. After fourteen weeks in near total darkness they are shipped off to slaughter for veal.
3. Female calves often replace their old, worn-out mothers, or are slaughtered soon after birth for the rennet in their stomachs. They are often kept in tiny crates or tethered in stalls for the first few months of their lives, only to grow up to become 'milk machines' like their mothers.
4. Dairy products are frequently contaminated with cow's blood and pus, pesticides, hormones, and antibiotics.
5. Dairy products are linked to allergies, constipation, obesity, heart disease, cancer, and other diseases. Population studies, backed up by a groundbreaking Harvard study of more than 75,000 nurses suggest that drinking milk can actually cause osteoporosis.
It is so easy to switch from dairy to non-dairy. You will notice immediate and positive changes in your body as well as the peace of mind that comes with knowing you are not contributing to the needless pain and suffering of animals.
