Relationships in the news: Jon Gosselin delays divorce

In Touch quoted Jon Gosselin as saying,
“I regret my conduct since Kate and I separated [on June 22], ... I used poor judgment in publicly socializing with other women so soon.” Gosselin has asked that the divorce now be delayed for ninety days.
This change of heart came after the TLC producers of their reality show, "Jon and Kate plus 8," announced that the program is going in a new direction as of November 2nd and be called " Kate plus 8."
Jon Gosselin's dating behavior and interviews with the press that revealed his extreme dislike for his estranged wife, probably prompted the program producers and sponsors to re-package the Gosselin brand by portraying Kate Gosselin as the, "single mom with the ex-philandering husband."
Divorce often brings out the worst in couples, especially in the early stages of the break-up. Family members and friends take sides as the couple often tries to dissect want wrong in their relationship and form new ties and new roles. This is very difficult under the best of situations and can become incredibly destructive when the dissolution of a marriage is so public.
Regardless of Jon's motives at this time, slowing down how this family is going to remain in the public eye, is not necessarily such a bad thing. The eight children now have the good, the bad ,and the ugly of their parents behavior recorded permanently in print and on television. It does not appear that they have fully examined the long term consequences of that, otherwise they each would have made other choices along the way.
It is purely speculation, but it could be that the terms of their custody arrangement may be what is possibly part of the call for the delay. If both of them have legal custody ( which is most likely) than Jon Gosselin could decide that he does not want their children to appear on Kate's new show and could withdraw permission.
If the Gosselins issues become combative and the children are not allowed to participate, because of one or the others protest, the end result could actually benefit their children. If the whole Gosselin brand is taken off the market and this family was able to make decisions that were not influenced by their motivation to make their living from this show, they really might be able to say that they are making their decisions " for the sake of the children."
