He responded, "You mean when we made love?"
Mackenzie Phillips was surprised by the reaction to her disclosure about her incestuous relationship with her father. On a recent interview on CBS's "The Early Show, " she said ,"I was hoping to help incest survivors and find some redemption and freedom..."I never expected this huge national dialogue," she added. "I never expected the rape and incest network to have a 82 percent rise in hits on their website a 26 percent rise in telephone calls."
Many have responded on the blog sites with anger towards Phillips claiming, she was "not a victim." Regardless of ones understanding of her particular story ,or the nature of incest, those who work with incest survivors might speculate that the first occurrence did not happen at age nineteen. Whatever the details are, it still does not excuse her father's culpability in the matter.
The debate might continue with no other factual information, other than Phillip's report of events and those of her siblings. However, the increase in viewers and readers seeking support for incest is a positive result of her story.
