Today, at a press conference, attorney Eric George  issued a statement for his client Debbie Rowe, stating that  an LA judge had officially granted Katherine Jackson custody of Jackson's three children.

Debbie Rowe, mother of the two oldest Jackson children had not contested Michael Jackson's wishes that Katherine Jackson  be given custody  in the event of his death. It appears that both Katherine Jackson and Debbie Rowe made a quick decision that allowed for a  timely settlement  for all concerned.

It was also announced that Ms. Rowe will be given supervised visitation of her children. Rowe had previously given up parental rights ,but in light of the current circumstances, she must have asked for a chance to know her children.

Biology does not determine maternal instincts, but the unfortunate and sudden death of the children's father may provide Ms. Rowe and her children an opportunity to create a meaningful relationship.  It would be difficult for those children to suddenly loose a parent and then have to be cared for by a stranger. Hopefully the children knew and had a positive and safe relationship with their grandmother and that this can be the foundation for them to explore what, if any, future relationship they will have with Ms. Rowe.

The visits between Rowe and her children will be supervised by a mutually agreed upon and paid for  child psychologist , who  is to support  everyone through these transitions. In complicated paternity. or adoption cases, children can struggle with issues of loyalty and attachment.

The difficulty for the youngest Jackson child , Blanket,  still remains. There  have been no public reports as to the identity of his mother. In cases such as these, it can be difficult when your siblings have a biological parent to visit and you do not.  This can complicate a child's overall feelings of safety and security.

It is not unusual , in other cases such as these , that the surviving  biological parent or caretaker, also foster  a relationship with their children's  half siblings in order to create a more cohesive family unit. It would be the hope that Jackson's children can grieve the loss of their father and find meaningful relationships with their other family members, including Ms. Rowe, and that all the relationships be encouraged, if appropriate.
