Jon and Kate plus eight in trouble?

Jon Gosselin star of reality show Jon and Kate Plus 8 has made headlines, internet buzz, and the cover of US Magazine for leaving a bar at 2am with another woman while his wife was promoting her new book about their family and eight kids.
In reading the comments, on various sites, it appears that viewers seem to blame his wife for his behavior or feel "she drove him to it." Many also seem to be upset that the couple stresses Christian values and with this current incident, they now feel betrayed. Here are some thoughts before you consider becoming a reality TV star.
- TV is a visual medium; therefore conflict sells.
- Some couples have a communication style that is confrontational and certainly is not for everyone. Having seen the show, they both appear to "hold their own with one another " and both participate in verbal sparring and what might be considered as, belittling behavior. It takes two, and both are accountable for their contribution. Do you want your marriage revealed?
- Real people who decide that self exposure is a way to make money or feel special, may find themselves surprised when their celebrity goes awry. The minute you make that decision to be televised, you welcome comments and scrutiny that may not always be supportive.
- Being a celebrity is a hard life for those who welcome it, and "real people" are even less prepared for the challenges.
- Regardless of whether a camera is capturing your every move, you are responsible for your own behavior and choices.
- Your family, friends, and even acquaintances may get seduced into supporting you publicly or bringing you down.
- Your children will have a record of the TV show and all the publicity it generated, both good and bad.
- Everyone you know and everyone you don't know, will see the same cover of you on the magazine stand at the checkout counter and form an opinion.
- Your children did not ask for you to make them or their family a subject on a TV show.
- Religious adherence does not make you immune to mistakes.
- Branding and popularity can be short lived.
Although Kate and Jon have made enough money to quit their day jobs and enjoy the endorsements and products that the TV producers have been able to provide as tie-ins to their show, they may also be discovering that nothing in life is really free.
