
Jon and Kate in The Insider talk about how" things are falling apart." Jon feels he's in prison and Kate is determined "not to lay down and die." The problem once again with making "real people" into a brand, is that they are not prepared for the scrutiny and they assume that they will be appreciated and liked. They are surprised that not everyone does and in fact, the audience may even revel in their failure and faults.
They have a contract now and have to play it out. The season has already been shot, the PR folks are spinning their story for ratings and hoping they won't loose their sponsors. In the meantime, we have kids involved and parents who will likely need to find real jobs again because their celebrity has most likely peaked. It is hard to brand individuals for very long. They have no product to sell and the book deals have a limited window of interest.
We are fascinated by other people's stories. We want to know we are not alone or we want to feel superior. We teach children about natural and logical consequences and we all learn the same way; from the choices we make. We can choose to be victims or take personal responsibility for our actions.
The Gosselins have an opportunity to learn from this situation and to help their children learn to make good choices as well.
