There have been many mixed reports about the extent of the injuries that Natasha Richardson sustained after her skiing accident in Canada. Today People reported that a family friend stated that the actress is "brain dead" with no chance of recovery and  that those close to the case have said this was caused by  a "leakage of blood between the brain and skull."

There have been no official statements by the family or medical team. Family and friends are visiting her in the hospital and this must be an incredibly difficult and shocking time for the them. Accidents are by nature sudden and unpredictable. It is not  imagined that a ski lesson on a beginner's slope could be so potentially fatal.

The family may have difficult decisions ahead as to how much and what further treatment is possible. It is hoped that they are getting all the support they need to fully understand her condition.
