WALNUT CREEK, CA -- For the second-consecutive week, Washington State sophomore guard Klay Thompson has been named the Pac-10 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for November 23-29, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.

A native of Ladera Ranch, CA, Thompson led the Cougars to the Great Alaska Shootout Championship. He was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player after averaging 29.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.0 steals in wins over Alaska Anchorage, Nicholls State and San Diego.

In the Cougars opening game of the tournament against Alaska Anchorage, Thompson scored 25 points on 9-of-18 shooting and pulled down seven boards.

WSU's second round opponent was Nicholls State where Klay scored 21 points and had a career-high 6 assists.

Saturday night in the championship game against San Diego, he scored 43 points on 16-of-24 shooting, in route to breaking the Great Alaska Shootout single-game and championship game records for most points scored in a game.

His performance against the Toreros in the championship game tied former Cougar Guy Williams for the third-most points in a single game in Washington State history.

For the season, Thompson is leading the Pac-10 Conference in points, averaging 28.3 points a game, second in field goals made (58) and sixth in three-point field goal percentage (.568). Six games into the schedule under new head man, Coach Ken Bone, the Cougs are flourishing while making the transition from the slower style of play favored by former Coach Tony Bennett. Their victory over quality opponent San Diego was triggered by the all-around play of Thompson.

Klay is the 17th men’s basketball player all-time to earn back-to-back Pac-10 Player of the Week honors.

This is the second weekly honor for Thompson and Washington State’s 21st all-time Player of the Week.

Also Nominated: Nic Wise, Arizona; Amondi Amoke, California; Teondre Williams, Oregon; Seth Tarver, Oregon State; Landry Fields, Stanford
