Hold on, I’m not recruiting for X-rated films. This is an actual question that was posted on a website recently, and the answers were both interesting and humorous. One married woman said she would do it with her husband, but it would have to be a short part. Another quipped they thought there were enough naked, scary people doing it already, while a third said they wouldn’t pay more than $500 for the part..jpg)
Phoenix is rated number 9 in top U.S. erotic important cities, and one of the reasons is Jenna Jameson and her online Club of the same name. Jameson is also owner of Babe’s Cabaret in Scottsdale, and resides in Paradise Valley. Jenna Jameson is probably one of the most famous female performers ever in pornographic films, but decided to throw in the towel in January of 2008, and devote full time to her clubs.
To give you an idea of what you are missing out on, Jameson earned $6,000 per movie starting out in 1995, but by 2001 was raking in $65,000 for an hour and a half’s work in films, while making $25,000 per night dancing. She also played the role of "Mandy," the "First Nude Woman on Radio," in Howard Stern's semi-autobiographical 1997 film “Private Parts.” Jenna’s autobiography, How to Make Love Like a Porn Star: A Cautionary Tale, was published August 17, 2004.
So what’s a former porn star got to look forward to? Today he or she can break into mainstream movies, although, perhaps, somewhat restricted by their background. Marilyn Chambers ("Behind the Green Door") had a one shot in David Cronenberg’s "Rabid," before returning to X-rated films, and Traci Lords ended up in "Gilmore Girls".
But it is Steven Soderbergh’s move to star Sasha Grey in “The Girlfriend Experience,” that is getting the most publicity. Grey is a 21-year old star of X-rated movies who hopes to move on to mainstream films. Some think the trend was set when big time personalities like paris Hilton seemed to be unhurt by making private sex videos that eventually ended up on the Internet.
However, the porn business is taking a hit now with a recent case of HIV reported from California’s San Fernando Valley, the industry’s U.S. headquarters. A woman tested positive for HIV right after performing in a film, but her co-stars tested negative. However, it can take as long as two weeks for the infection to show up so all are quarantined. There have been 22 confirmed cases in the business since 2004.
Some other interesting facts. There are 4.2 million X-rated websites, 1.5 billion monthly downloads, and one-third of the visitors to adult websites are women. And by the way, Chandler, you are number 10 in Internet searches for “sex,” number 7 for “XXX,” and number 4 for “porno.” Welcome to the club.
