Less than a month after Donald Trump sidestepped a backlash of biblical proportions by letting Miss California, Carrie Prejean, keep her crown, the axe fell on the So Cal blonde Wednesday, Foxnews.com reports.
K2 Productions, the independent producers of the Miss California USA pageant, under license from Miss Universe, cites continued breach of contract issues as the reason for Prejean's firing.
"This was a business decision, based solely on contract violations," Keith Lewis, executive director of K2 Productions, said in the documents. "After our press conference in New York we had hoped we would be able to forge a better working relationship. However, since that time it has become abundantly clear that Carrie has no desire to fulfill her obligations under our contract and work together.”
The beauty queen from San Diego was named first runner-up in the April 19 Miss USA pageant, during which her response to Perez Hilton's gay mariage question reignited the debate on the passage of California's Prop 8 and same-sex unions.
Prejean favors limiting marriage to a man and a woman.
At the time of a press conference last month to counter K2 executive's desire to fire Miss California, Trump praised Prejean for her "honest answer" when she was asked a "very tough question," noting that it was the same answer that President Obama has given.
Miss California USA beauty pageant co-director Shanna Moakler resigned on May 13, the day after the announcement, in protest over Prejean being allowed to keep her state title as ruled by Donald Trump.
But it was Trump who gave the final OK to fire her, FOXNews.com reports.
"I told Carrie she needed to get back to work and honor her contract with the Miss California Organization and I gave her the opportunity to do so," Trump said in the same documents. "Unfortunately it just doesn’t look like it is going to happen and I offered Keith my full support in making this decision."
Representatives for K2, Prejean, and Trump were not available for immediate comment.
