Offbeat: Beyond church and state
Never talk politics and religion in mixed company.
Ever hear that one?
That's an old-school quote that people don't pay attention to much these days...especially on the Internet.
Heck, I may not often talk about the issues surrounding the separation of church and state in a real-life social setting, but hold on to your hats when it comes to the Web. I'll write and blog and Digg and Facebook and Twitter and e-mail blast my way into the "global mixed company."
Scruples? Well, I try to behave, but it's just too easy to let it all out. You see, chances are someone isn't going to throw a drink in your face for opening up your mouth at the wrong time (or in this case, posting incidentary thoughts).
So, what are the ramifications of every Tom, Dick, and Harry (another old-school expression) being able to post just about whatever they please on the Internet?
We've already seen bizarre individual examples of harmful Internet use...the suicides, the burglaries, the scams, and so on. But what does it ultimately mean?
I'm sharing a video that gives some incredible and mind-blowing statistics. It goes beyond just silly postings on blogs. And although it may ultimately cause one to ask more questions than supply answers...this video posted on Tangle.com puts things in alarming perspective.
I'll be back to issues of church and state at our next social gathering! Don't 'ya know?!
