One of the more frustrating challenges for any fan of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremonies is tracking down a video of the performances.
Unless you were able to make the trip to the Rock Hall and watch a simulcast, you were probably out of luck.
Initially, none of the ceremonies were televised live or even re-broadcast. Eventually VH1 began airing highly edited versions. Last year the Fuse network televised the induction ceremony live for the first time.
In conjunction with its 25th anniversary, the Rock Hall and Time Life are selling the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Live 9 DVD Induction collection. This unique set features rare, one-of-a-kind performances from the Hall of Fame induction ceremonies spanning the last 24 years. You'll see the biggest names in rock 'n' roll perform in intimate settings, and jam in combinations not seen anywhere else. Each DVD features exclusive induction speeches by rock royalty. Plus the legendary Museum opening concert for Cleveland in 1995 held at the old Cleveland Municpal Stadium before it was torn down.
According to the Rock Hall website, there's 125 exclusive performances, over 24 hours of classic rock entertainment, and over 9 hours of bonus material.
Set includes performances by AC/DC, Aerosmith, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, The Doors, Eric Clapton, Fleetwood Mac, George Harrison, Johnny Cash, Keith Richards, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Metallica, Mick Jagger, Parliament Funkadelic, Paul McCartney, The Righteous Brothers, Santana, Tina Turner, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, U2, The Who and more.
I have many favorite performances from those annual shows each March. One of them came in 2004. George Harrison was inducted posthumously. Prince was also inducted that year. He joined Tom Petty and some of the Heartbreakers, Jeff Lynne and Harrison's son Dhani for an incredible version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." Prince's guitar solo late in the song is pretty amazing.
