I had been in Seattle quite a while before I heard about a mysterious, exclusive, private club called The Ruins. It turns out you don't have to be a member to get in: On Monday October 26, 2009, Kim Ricketts Book Events is hosting an extravagant evening of historical cuisine at the Ruins with New York Times Restaurant Critic, William Grimes. You can make reservations now to sneak a peak into the Ruins and dine like a Rockefeller.
For $200 per person, guests get a copy of Grimes’ new book, Appetite City, as well as all drinks, courses, matching wines, gratuity and taxes. The custom menu, recreated from some of New York City's food landmarks, includes delicacies such as Turtle Soup with Sherry (from Sandy Welsh’s Terrapin Lunch, 1853), Delmonico Steak (Delmonico’s, 14th Street at Union Square, 1868), and Duckling Montmorency (from Brussell’s East 54th Street, 1940).
In keeping with the refined setting and extravagant menu, guests are encouraged to dress in festive, elegant attire. If ever there were a night for spats in Seattle, this would be it. The festivities start at 6:00, but remember: tickets are required!
If you are interested in attending this event or any others in Kim Ricketts Book Events' Cooks and Books series, you can make reservations through the Kim Ricketts website: http://www.kimricketts.com/cooksbooks.html or by calling their office at (206) 632-2419.
