Before I go into this week’s picks I want to take a second to congratulate the New York Yankees on their winning of the World Series. Regardless of your feeling of the Bronx Bombers, 27 World Championships is a pretty remarkable feat. Last week I went 10-3 for a season total of 79-37. Here are my picks for week 9:
Falcons over the Redskins- Washington is just what the doctor ordered for an Atlanta team playing at a high level, but losing tough games. The Redskins are a team in turmoil with a lame duck head coach who is better off walking away from his job with some pride remaining. Falcons 27-10
Cardinals over the Bears- This game will come down to the play of the quarterbacks and going to take Kurt Warner over Jay Cutler. Cardinals 21-17
Colts over the Texans- This could be one of the highest scoring games of the year as both of these offenses are playing at a very high level. In the end the Colts defense led by Dwight Freeney and Bob Sanders will make a play to secure the victory. Colts 38-35
Ravens over the Bengals- This game has defensive battle written all over it and it will be interesting to see how the Bengals hold up. The Ravens will be fueled by their early season loss to Cincy and will find a way to win this game, more than likely with a defensive touchdown. Ravens 17-13
Jaguars over the Chiefs- After laying an egg last week against the Titans, the Jaguars must get a victory this week to keep any chances of a playoff hope alive. Kansas City will be a game opponent but the Jacksonville ground attack will be too much to handle. Jaguars 21-6
Packers over the Buccaneers-Tampa Bay is one of the worst teams in the NFL and will have a rookie making his first start at quarterback. This will be ugly. Packers 31-3
Patriots over the Dolphins- While Miami put a major dent into the Jets playoff chances, they will not have much luck against a superior Patriot team. New England is ready to make their run at the AFC East title. Patriots 27-10
Saints over the Panthers - There could be a letdown concern for the New Orleans Saints, but playing at home should prevent that. Carolina is coming off of a solid game last week, but the offense will not be able to keep up with the Saints. Saints 31-21
Seahawks over the Lions- This game could be a lot closer than many expect as the Lions are playing with more confidence and intensity. Going to take Seattle merely because they are the home team. Seahawks 21-17
Titans over the 49ers- San Francisco is in a must win situation while the Titans are playing for pride. I think the Tennessee dynamic running game will be the difference, as San Francisco remains too conservative on offense. Titans 24-21
Chargers over the Giants- The Giants are struggling on defense, especially against the pass, one of the strengths of the San Diego offense. Could be time to press the panic button Giants fans. Chargers 31-17
Eagles over the Cowboys- Philadelphia is clicking on all cylinders and will be playing in front of a very fired up Sunday night crowd. I still need to see the Cowboys put up a big time performance on the road, against a contending team, before I believe. Eagles 27-24
Steelers over the Broncos- Back to back tough games for the Broncos as they take on the physical Steelers in an interesting Monday Night Football match-up. This game will be close, but tough to go against the Steelers who usually find ways to win games like these. Steelers 21-20
The Jets are on a bye this week and after last week’s loss to Miami, I think both the team and the fans need it. At 4-4 the Jets are at the middle of the pack and will need to go at least 6-2 the last 8 weeks of the season to have any chance at the playoffs. As a lifelong Jets fan, you just know the terrible losses to the Bills and Dolphins will be the difference for not making the playoffs.
