Michelle DeLancy who served as the Boeing Classic's Interim Director following Chuck Nelson's departure in March has been promoted to Tournament Director, it was announced yesterday.
As the Tournament Director, DeLancy will be responsible for just about everything; player relations, sales, marketing, communications and operations, and she will liaise between the PGA Champions TOUR and the tournament's main beneficiary - the Virginia Mason Medical Center. She will report to Michael VanDerhoef, President of the Virginia Mason Foundation.
DeLancy, a graduate of Washington State University, began her career in the marketing department at the Benaroya Research Institute at Viginia Mason. She was then promoted to Marketing Manager and then Marketing Director for the Virginia Mason Medical Center. It was in this capacity she began contributing to the development of what has become one of the most successful events on the Champions Tour and one that has raised almost $3million for local charities since the inaugural event in 2005.
'Michelle has played a big part over the past five years in making the Boeing Classic one of the Tour's best events,' says VanDerhoef. 'She has emerged as a very talented tournament director and we're thrilled for her and the Boeing Classic.'
