Is Andre Johnson the fourth best player in the NFL?

CBSSports.com Senior Writer Pete Prisco says that Texans star players Andre Johnson, Mario Williams, and DeMeco Ryans are among the top 50 players in the NFL.

That's a high honor considering there are 32 teams in the NFL and on average, each team would only be expected to have one or two players on the list.

For the record, the Super Bowl champion Steelers also have three players on the list - and only the Colts, Vikings, and Cardinals have more players on the list than the Texans with four each.

Of course these things are highly subjective but it's always good to get the positive national press.

Fans around the league who haven't seen Andre Johnson play won't understand his lofty ranking which is up from #26 on the same list last season.

Mario Williams was #6 on Prisco's list last year and fell to #19 this year.   Ryans was on the 'just missed' list last season and broke into the top 50 this year with a #44 ranking.  I think Prisco nailed it in terms of the Texans top three players.

Hmmm.... I didn't see Dunta Robinson or Owen Daniels' name anywhere - not even on the 'just missed' list..

Anyway, this is one guy's opinion and by no means an authoritative list but it's good to get the positive pub.  Arguing whether Larry Fitzgerald is better than Andre Johnson is kind of like a Z-28 vs.Trans Am debate (and of course the Z-28 is the class of that matchup).

One thing that's certain is when a national media guy writes something good about your team, he is insightful, but when he writes something negative, he is clueless.

But a list is just a list.  As I write this, I'm watching NFL Network run a special on the NFLs top ten return men of all time.  In reference to Gale Sayers at #7, one critic says "who came up with this [bogus] list?".

My only hope is that Johnson, who is entering his seventh season in the league and will soon be reaching the end of his prime years, gets to realize a playoff dream because if there's anyone who deserves it, it's #80.
