Casey fell into the Texans lap in the 5th round of the NFL draft

There's not a lot more I can write that hasn't already been written about James Casey.

If you're from Houston and you're a football fan, you know his story.

If not, read this, this, this, and this.

The main purpose of this entry is to help bring to the forefront, the 6th and final installment  of Casey's personal diary that he's kept on the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) website.  His diary entries have been enjoyable reads throughout the entire process and I thank James for taking the time to share his personal thoughts about it all.

I've been following Casey's draft journey since I first heard him on 1560 The Game with Lance and John during a drive to work one morning after he declared.

You can't help but pull for this guy - unless your name is Joel Dreessen or Clark Harris of course.

Due to Casey's broad skill set, both Dreessen (backup TE to Owen Daniels) and Harris' long snapper jobs could be in jeopardy if Casey is able to deliver on the versatility and production aspects of his bio that have been so well publicized since draft day,

But that might be a lot to lay on a rookie 5th round draft pick, especially since the Texans will likely use Casey as a backup fullback and special teamer as well.

One thing for sure is that Casey is happy the draft process is finally over.  In his last diary entry Casey said "I don’t think I’d ever want to relive the whole draft again because you’re just sitting around and getting mad at times because you aren’t getting drafted."

For a guy who some thought might go as high as the second round, Sunday must have been a very long day.  But that's all in the past now and Casey can concentrate on his next goal - to make an NFL roster.

And before I forget, since we're talking about a Rice guy, please check out Nate Griffin's new domain over at the Rice Owls Examiner page.  Nate has been around Houston sports for a long time and he does a great job covering college and pro sports.
