Let me get straight to the point.   When your quarterback is looking over his shoulder when he steps off the bus, there is no hope for your team on any given Sunday.

Matt Schaub did #8 proud on Sunday as he quaked, shaked and rattled his way through a putrid performance at Nashville's LP Field.  I'll leave the final stat line for you to read and digest.

Schaub was all over the place early on with his signature six-feet-over-the-head passes to his intended receivers.  He appeared to settle down a bit on the touchdown drive in the second quarter.  But yes, it was just an aberration.  That drive was one of only two all day that went for more than six plays.  It was a total meltdown again and this is getting way old.

I will give Matt credit for standing in there and getting hammered on that long pass to Andre Davis.  But a 27.8 passer rating and 1 for 6 in the red zone ain't gonna cut it.

The defense was up to its usual tricks in the first half; that is, no pressure on the quarterback and getting gashed on a regular basis.  But to their credit they did their job by forcing punts on six of the last seven Titans' drives.  Whether that was because of our defense or a timely re-emergence of Fisher-ball is up for debate.

One bright spot in this mess is the play of Steve Slaton.  He's really good and the Texans would be in deep doo without him.  But isn't it maddening when the Texans repeatedly call sideways screens on 3rd-and-1 and run up the gut on 4th-and-2?  It will really be nice next year when the Texans can add a power back to the backfield to complement Slaton's skills and allow some smash-mouth from time to time.

As of right now, the Texans are about as far from a smash-mouth team as you can get.  Finesse is fine.  Balance is better.

By the way -- nice job again, Duane Brown.  Not bad for a rook.

Adding to the madness was yet another ill-fated 'coaches challenge' by Gary Kubiak on Schaub's first interception that was clearly an interception.  Who is advising him from the booth on these things?  That failed challenge led to the inability to challenge two other really bad calls by the officials on Justin McCareins' 37 yard reception that was clearly out of bounds and LenDale White's TD which was arguably not across the plane of the goal line.

This officiating crew was equal opportunity as they called a ticky tack personal foul on the Titans for a late hit out of bounds on the Jacoby Jones punt return late in the game.

For those of you holding out hope that the Texans somehow had a chance to pull this one out late, I would advise putting down the Battle Red Koolaid.  That 12-point deficit could have just as well been 22 with as poor as our quarterback played on Sunday.

In the meantime, if you play fantasy football, start whatever team is playing the Texans for your team defense.  You'll clean up.
