LIfe with Bengals' receiver Chad Ochocinco is never boring.
Early this summer, Ocho discovered the magical world of Twitter, where apparently any kook with a computer can run his mouth in 140-character spurts, unfettered.
Taking to the world of Twitter like a kid takes to a new toy, or an alcoholic takes to a frat party, Ocho proceeded to do such things as challenge Shawne Merriman to a fight (despite the fact he apparently likes to slap around people with Spanish sounding names) and compare the deaths of Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett to the 9-11 tragedies.
Then, as the NFL reiterated its tough policy against Twitter-type of activities anywhere near the general vacinity of football game-time, The Voice went blank.
On September 4, Ocho announced to the world, via Twitter no less, that he was--well--done Tweeting:
"Due to the many rules the NFL has made I've found it difficult to enjoy Twitter and I'll be deleting my account :( "
That reminds me of my six-year old telling me she isn't talking to me because she's mad.
But, fear not, Ocho apologists, for The Voice is making a comeback.
According to PFT.com, Ocho has promised to strike again. Ocho swears he has discovered some type of loophole in the NFL policy banning social media within 90 minutes prior to game time until after the post-game media access. He was quoted by the Associated Press as stating, "NFL, I would like to apologize to you guys early. I understand. I read all the fine print in the letters you sent, but I did find loopholes. I found loopholes."
Here's a loophole Ocho may want to investigate--shut your trap for once in your career and just play the game!
Sunday, the Bengals begin a new season with an improved defense and a lot of expectation from its fanbase. They open up at home against a sub-par Bronco team in a game that will probably be the first black out home game since 2003.
The Bengals have an untested and unproven offensive line, a quarterback that may or may not be healthy as to his elbow AND his ankle, not to mention him being afraid of death on the field and one of the toughest schedules in the league laying ahead.
And Ochocinco can only focus on his Twitter.
He better focus on a Bengal victory. If the team loses to the Broncos in the season opener, at home, many fans will already be calling it a season. The team needs to start on a high note. Catch eight passes for a buck-something and score once or twice Sunday, then you can Tweet all night long, Ocho. Make sure this team makes a statement about another play-off run, then you can shoot your mouth off just like 'the old days'.
Until then, just play the game.
