Will Merriman bring the pain to Ocho?--photo by AP

Sunday, December 20, can't come fast enough for the Cincinnati Bengals' trip to San Diego to take on the Chargers--at least, not for two of the megastars that will be on the field.

Several months back, as one of Chad Ochocinco's first orders of business after discovering the world of Twitter, Ocho issued several challenges to Charger linebacker Shawne Merriman.

Merriman, being the type to let bygones be bygones, promptly responded in kind.

After months of silence, the feud has re-escalated.

Today, Chad Ochocinco posted the following:

"@shawnemerriman man kiss da baby<---if da baby don't kiss back <---baby is basically telling u child pleeze<---(stewey voice<--family guy)

@shawnemerriman I'll break yo jaw son,,, after you get yo mouth wired change yo name to ugly Betty!!!

@shawnemerriman Challenge: me and you 8 round boxing match superbowl weekend in Miami before my team plays, I'll Mayweather you all 8 rnds!!"

Merriman, still in his jovial mood where Chad is concerned, responded thusly:

"Sorry people god blessed me with a lot of things but patience and the ability to ignore is not one of them lol

@OGOchoCinco im done talking make it happen

@OGOchoCinco you and i both know you dont want dat this aint hard knocks

@OGOchoCinco & just for the record i dont hit women but i will def. Beat ur ass"

Ochocinco has a history of letting his mouth write really, really big checks.  Sometimes his tail can cash them, sometimes they can't.

Two things are certain, however.  First, Ocho is definitely back in old form.  2008 was a miserable season that saw Chad's production tumble and his mouth shut.

Second, Chad is definitely believing his own hype.  The interesting question becomes how all of this will play out come December.  Linebackers and receivers don't mix it up a whole lot, except on short inside routes.  Will Merriman take Ocho's head off, or will he be so consumed with doing just that that he loses focus on the other ten Bengals on the field?
