Fresh ground sausage, pepperonis, and cheese, oh my!

If Andrew Zimmern says Punch Pizza is good, then it has to be good.

I stopped by Punch Pizza's location in northeast Minneapolis to taste a slice of their Neapolitan pies, said to be the best in Minnesota.  Was I disappointed?  No, not by a long shot.  It's not often that I request another pizza, boxed, to show to my mother, the ever-so-cynical connoisseur.

Not only is the pizza amazing, so is the speed of service and its price.

Environment, Environment

The environment is open, spacious, and very inviting.  No complaints here.  On the wall lies rustic pictures and inspirations from Italy, not too cluttered but enough to get the point across.  But that's not the most important part of Punch Pizza.  Their oven is.  It's absolutely beautiful to look at, and you can watch your pizza scorched by the 800 degree fire inside.

Punchin' Prices

The best thing besides its delicious pizzas are their prices.  Most pizzas are under the $10 mark here, and although the pizzas are smaller than most traditional American pizzas, the toppings are thick enough to satisfy.  Appetizers, which are slim, also run well under the $10 mark.  It's very affordable, which pairs wells with the quality of its pizzas.

Punchin' Taste

Punch Pizza's pizzas, even including the plain Margherita, overflow with an organic, fresh flavor.  Their pizzas are rarely greasy, and you can really taste the fresh tomatoes and toppings in every sizzling bite.  Nope, these tomatoes aren't salted and processed to remove its natural, tangy flavor.  This flavor is left intact, and it tastes absolutely delicious.  And I hate tomatoes.

Their pizzas aren't loaded with toppings, so if you're looking for something substantial and greasy, look elsewhere.  But if you want to try a different pizza, a pizza boasting with organic, tasty ingredients, Punch Pizza is worth the visit.

"Minnesota Nice" Service

If you're worried about some disgruntled teenager manning your order, don't be.  Punch Pizza's staff is very friendly and willing to help you out if you don't know what to order.  And they always managed to smile, even after I spent a good five minutes choosing my pizza.

Overall, Punch Pizza in Minneapolis is a knockout, and definitely worth the visit.  I recommend visiting during the early afternoon, when you can eat your pizza in their patio area.  The pizzas cool down fast, so if you plan to do takeout, make sure you don't live too far away.

For more info: Punch Pizza has two locations in Minneapolis, near Lake Calhoun and East Hennepin Avenue.  Visit their website for more pricing and pizza information.  Punch Pizza is open daily from 11am to 10pm.
