There are a couple of fantastic conventions taking place in and around Chicagoland in November; just the thing to make the dreary fall/early winter seem livable!
First is WindyCon 36, taking place in Lombard, IL from Nov 13th through 15th. WindyCon is put on by ISFiC Inc, a non-for-profit organization that promotes Science Fiction literacy and fan appreciation in Illinois. They also donate proceeds from their WindyCons to charities - this year's recipient is "The People's Resource Center" in Wheaton IL.
On the WindyCon schedule are plenty of science fiction book and film events, and there is gaming, both tabletop and LARP. They unfortunately don't have a game/event schedule, but the site does list Battletech, Dragonstorm and Collateral Damage as events.
The second con for November is WolfCon V at Our Lady Mother in Chicago IL. This runs 3 days, on Thanksgiving weekend from Nov 27th through Nov 29th. For five bucks a day, there are a lot of games and events listed. Hackmaster, Call of Cthulu are two RPG events and I will be running a Swords & Wizardry game on Saturday, sponsored by TARGA (Traditional Adventure Roleplaying Game Association). There are also a great many board games and card games scheduled. If you want to avoid the Christmas shopping, come play some games in Chicago!
