Cedar the Doggone Green author and eco-advocate send special love and compassion to Splash and Sunny Kennedy, the Senator’s two Portuguese water dogs. It was in the summer of 2008 that Cedar discovered the book My Senator and Me, a 52-page children’s book for ages 4 to 8.

Their chronicle, recounted by Splash, describes a day in the life of a senator and his working dog. They explain to children how a bill becomes law while Splash boasts that he knows Washington, D.C. "like the back of his paw." With Splash always at his side the team visited local schools sharing their passion, the working side of the legislative process in D.C. The book is informational and presented with a terrific wit. The illustrations are superb ink-in watercolor; their story is a wonderful behind-the-scenes account of their life in the U.S. Senate.

Actually the book was a great inspiration to Cedar. It was the impetus for her second book, Doggone Clean and Green: Eco-Solutions for a Pet’s Daily Life. It is yet another example of how the Senator’s life (and his dogs) inspired so many.

Cedar’s brother and co-author, Pup Ernie wish you guys the best. Continue sailing, running the beaches and fetching. The Senator will be smiling; you all shared a special love and great joy.
