Click to watch the bank run scene from Frank Capra classic film, It's A Wonderful Life

.
The recent bank runs, which added to the current credit freeze, are driven mostly by unreasoning panic. I'm reminded of a scene in Frank Capra's Depression-era film, It's A Wonderful Life, where the Jimmy Stewart character saved the Bailey Building and Loan by talking common sense to his frightened customers.

If you feel afraid about the current financial crisis, please take seven minutes to view this video clip and calm down before you do anything rash. Think of all the people who dumped their stock last Friday as the stock market plunged and then kicked themselves yesterday after the market rallied. Think of all the people who sumped stocks again today and may be kicking themselves tomorrow. The same goes for all of the bankers feeling panic, who are freezing credit from fear more than common sense.

Slow down. Breathe. Use your head. That's the path to security, in my humble opinion. Irrationality got us into this mess; rationality can get us out.
