The final response to the Examiners' survey on TS usage presents a contrast to the earlier selections, where they each made some degree of concession to the economic uncertainty confronting the country, ranging from no traveling to seeking drive-to locations to save cost of flying.
DJ from Camp Hill, Pennsylvania says: "The economy has certainly affected my life, but not my vacations."
His family is taking multiple timeshare vacations this year, would happily purchase again, and their travel plans have not changed at all in response to the economy.
I'll let DJ take it from here:
"The economy has certainly affected my life, but not my vacations. Because I own timeshare (it’s paid in full), my family and I were able to take a wonderful vacation this summer during a time of economic uncertainty. Without timeshare, our vacation would have been substantially scaled back, perhaps eliminated. We’ve already been able to confirm next summer’s vacation by doing some pre-planning (paying next year’s maintenance fees a year in advance—I always pay the future year at the time the present year’s fees are billed-- does wonders for my exchange power)."
The results from the survey, though small and absolutely unscientific, are still illuminating. Of course, the respondents are people who, for whatever reason, were reading a timeshare column and were motivated to respond. But most respondents were pleased they owned timeshare, would purchase again, and by owning, they had options that would not have been available to them if they didn't. And even the one who published response who indicated they would not purchase again, really appreciated the space and features of the typical timeshare accommodation.
I'm sure we will do this again. It will be interesting to see the results under different economic circumstances. Thank you to every one who responded. Whether you were quoted or not, your input helps inform this space.
